18 Household Items You Didn’t Realize Had Expiration Dates



We use a lot of different items at our home but did we know that many of them have expiration dates. Here are some items that we have to replace from time to time.

18 HOUSEHOLD ITEMS YOU NEVER KNEW HAD EXPIRATION DATES

Pantry

  • Fire extinguisher (1-2 years)

You must repair the cracks in the hose of the fire extinguisher if there are any.

  • Disinfectants (3 months)

They are effective only three months after that you must throw them away.

  • Mosquito repellents (2 years)

After 2 years they are useless, so the best thing to do is to buy a new one.

  • Power strips (1-2 years)

With the power strips you must be careful not to exceed their capacity because sometimes we plug in too many appliances in them.

Kitchen

  • Spices (1-3 years)

While some of the spices we could keep up to three years, ground spices lose their smell after 6 months.

  • Flour (6-12 months)

High-grade flour can be kept one year while the first-grade one for 6 months.

Wardrobe

  • Bra (1-2 years)

Bras don’t last forever after a while they lose their elasticity and shape and we must buy a new one.

  • Running shoes (1 year)

When you have run 250-300 miles with your running shoes it is time for new ones because they become uncomfortable and cause stress to your joints.

Nursery

  • Child car seats (6-10 years)

After some time, the seat loses its shape and it isn’t safe anymore so you must replace it with a new one.

  • Pacifier (2-5 weeks)

They last only 2-5 weeks and after that you should replace them.

Dresser

  • Hairbrush (1 year)

You must clean your hairbrush one a week but after a year you must buy a new one.

  • Perfume (1-3 years)

Opened perfumes last 2 years and closed ones up to 3 years.

Bathroom

  • Sponge (2 weeks) and shower pouf (6 months)

Because they are always wet it is a perfect condition for fungi and bacteria, therefore, you must replace them regularly.

  • Toothbrush (3 months)

After a while, the bristles start to wear down so it is time for a new toothbrush.

  • Hydrogen peroxide (2 months)

After a while, the chemical degrades into the water, therefore, you must replace it after 2 months.

  • Towels (1-3 years)

They are a perfect environment for bacteria due to their wetness so keep in mind to wash them regularly and to replace them after 1-3 years.

Bedroom

  • Pillows (2-3 years)

After a while, it loses its shape and it becomes full of dust mites.

  • Slippers (6 months)

They are a perfect environment for fungi so we must replace them regularly.
