Travel Guide: Weekend in Astoria, Oregon

astoria oregon travel guide

We finally made it to Astoria, Oregon!

Since moving to Portland just over a year ago – the pretty coastal town of Astoria has long been at the top of my wish list. Everyone who has come to visit, has pretty much made it to Astoria before we have. We definitely got sidetracked by multiple trips to Lincoln City to work on our airbnb beach house, but now that’s up and running – we are back to our adventures and travels all over Oregon.

Here’s what I suggest you eat, see, and do on your own weekend getaway to Astoria:

astoria oregon shopping

Doe + Arrow

I spotted this adorable store full of well-curated home items and clothing on our way to Fort George Brewery. Doe + Arrow is just down the way and carries lots of cute little things that could easily make your way into your home. I spotted P.F. Candles, records, and cozy blankets.

fort george brewery

Fort George Brewery

This brewery is central to the major revival that Astoria is having right now and with good reason. The craft brews are aplenty (try the three-way brew), the food is on point and the atmosphere is pretty outgoing in this restored loft space.

When we visited Fort George Brewery there was a birthday party and graduation party happening at the same time. We found a seat at the bar and made our way through a flight of tasters. Definitely order the oyster shooters – they are made with local oysters from across the bay!

albatross astoria

Albatross & Co.

Looking to get your seafood fix at a hip, local spot? We hit up Albatross & Co. on our first night in town and grabbed a cozy booth in this dark and moody space. We loved all the vintage items and dark wood everywhere.

For our starter we shared the Dungeness Crab Deviled Eggs ($8 for 2). For our mains we ordered the Parisian Gnocchi with stinging nettle pesto, creme fraiche and a soft boiled duck egg ($19). Our second main was the Clam Bucatini with bacon, parsley and pickled peppers ($17). Everything was amazing, I definitely recommend checking it out.

astoria oregon wave mural

The Wave Mural

Make sure to stop by Imogen Gallery in Downtown Astoria to checking out some great art, but to also snap a pic in front of this epic wave mural located on the side of their parking lot!

astoria column

The Astoria Column

The absolute BEST time to go and check out The Astoria Column is at sunset. Set your Google maps and take a long and winding road to the top of the hill to this scenic lookout. It’s the perfect place to get a bird’s eye view of the town and water.

If you’re feeling active, climb to the top of the tower for more dramatic views. Parking is $5 and the pass is good for the whole year if you’d like to go back again.

bowpicker fish chips

Bowpicker Fish & Chips

We were so stuffed from brunch on the day we walked by Bowpicker Fish & Chips – but how damn adorable is this boat turned food cart? Do note – the lineups on the weekend are long, so don’t come hangry and get ready to wait. You’ll be rewarded with golden fried crispy goodness.

buoy beer astoria

Buoy Beer Co.

Don’t miss out on another one of our favourite breweries on this trip! Buoy Beer Co. is a great place to grab a flight of craft brews and watch the boats sail on by on the Columbia River. The menu looked pretty delicious, but we chose to just nibble on their hummus plate with our brews.

Uptown Cafe

For brunch, we stopped in at Uptown Cafe and we ended up ordering off the lunch menu! This charming local restaurant is a mom and pop spot located in nearby Warrenton, Oregon – just across the bridge.

I ordered the Cobb Salad with chicken, onion rings and a side of fruit.

It’s also located near a shopping plaza with a Costco, TJ Maxx and a few other stores if you’re looking to do some tax-free shopping while in Oregon.

Have you been to Astoria, Oregon recently? Any suggestions on additional things to eat, see and do for my return visit?
