A Covered Bridge Getaway in Cottage Grove

I challenged myself to get out and see as much as Oregon as humanly possible this summer – especially since the weather has been so nice.

So when the call came about visiting the cute little town of Cottage Grove, Oregon – I thought it would be a great opportunity to check it out as our home base while exploring a bit of Eugene, Oregon on the same visit.

Cottage Grove is the ‘Covered Bridge Capital of Oregon’ with 7 charming old-fashioned bridges to explore in the town of 10,000+ people. So we hopped in our car and drove from bridge-to-bridge on a little drive through the country.

Next time, I’m totally bringing my bike as the Row River Trail takes you past all the bridges and the 16-mile trail is paved!

We pulled into town on Friday evening and drove through Cottage Grove’s Historic Downtown featuring buildings that are over 100 years old. I had a fun time exploring the bookstores, local shops and antique spots along East Main Street over the weekend.

The last Friday of every month from May to November is Art Walk where local businesses offer complimentary wine, snacks, and homemade treats on this art crawl. On the day we visited a local youth orchestra were playing in all the different shops.

The Centennial Covered Bridge is right in town at the end of East Main Street and super easy to visit with pretty views of a small river and park. The Swinging Bridge and The Chambers Bridge are also close by.

On Saturday morning we headed into town for brunch at Buster’s Main Street Cafe for their Eggs Benedict Florentine. I definitely recommend this gem for some delicious eats. They are open for breakfast and lunch daily until 2 PM.

After brunch we went to check out a couple other covered bridges around town including The Currin Bridge and The Chambers Bridge.

Eugene, Oregon is about 25 minutes away, so we headed into the city to visit The Eugene Saturday Market and The Fifth Street Public Market before hitting up Hop Valley Brewery for Happy Hour. Since we had an early dinner, we headed out to a movie while in the city. If you have time for breakfast, do stop by Big Kahuna Bowls for their Acai Bowls on your way through the city.

After a long day, we returned to our hotel at The Village Green Resort in Cottage Grove. The Fireside Lounge is open late on weekends and is the perfect place for a nightcap after a day of exploring.

On the night we were at the lounge, there was live music – and it was really good! We enjoyed a couple glasses of wine, some tea, their famous carrot cake and got to hear a local musician play a couple covers and a few originals. The carrot cake definitely lives up to all the hype! It was a great way to relax on our little weekend getaway.

village green resort review

The Village Green Resort is an affordable and family-friendly hotel in Cottage Grove and only a 25-minute drive into Eugene, Oregon. We could enjoy the charms of a small town with access to explore a bigger city. The decor is farmhouse chic and each room features a private little patio to enjoy your morning coffee.

There’s also an outdoor swimming pool if you’re traveling with little ones or looking to take a dip to cool off after a full day of exploring.

We also took some time during our visit to explore their expansive 14-acre garden with this adorable mini covered bridge as a nod to the area. It was a great way to start the morning after the complimentary continental breakfast at the resort.
