The Mercedes-AMG Project One in Action

With over 1,000 hp coming from its mid engine and electric motors, what’s it like driving the new Mercedes-AMG Project One? Daimler just released a video of the car that gives us an idea what it is all about.

The eve of the Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) was graced by the Mercedes-AMG Project One and the smart vision EQ fortwo. The two electric vehicles are polar opposites of each other. The one that really stood out though was the AMG car.

The Mercedes-AMG Project One is a proof that the technology in Formula One cars can be transferred to road-legal vehicles. So, to further put emphasis on the hypercar’s F1 roots, it was driven by triple F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton to the stage during the Auto Show.

The ad released by Mercedes shows Hamilton walking towards a hangar full of AMG performance cars. The vehicles seen there ranged from the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL AMG W190  “Red Pig” going to the present Mercedes-AMG GT R. Then at the end of the room behind a special door is the Silver Arrow that eventually transitions into the Project One.

According to Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche, the Project One was developed in Brixworth by a team of F1 specialists. He added that their objective was to deliver a road-legal hypercar with forward-looking technology, ultimate performance and the best lap times.

The Project One is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine and four electric motors. Paired with the EQ Power+ drive system, the car is capable of producing at least 1,000 hp and it can reach a top speed of more than 350 km/h.
