HTC Desire 530 Gets Android 7.0 Nougat Update From Verizon

The entry-level HTC Desire 530 on Verizon is getting an unexpected treat, receiving an upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat. The update brings its software to the version 2.11.605.4 and debuts the August Android security patch. It may not be the latest monthly security patch available, but it should still improve the handset’s security and protect it against recent threats. The software package is approximately 1.5GB in size and is being delivered as an over-the-air (OTA) update. HTC warns that the smartphone will reboot multiple times during the update process, so you shouldn’t be alarmed when that happens. Long-pressing the power button before the process is complete could render the device inoperable so refrain from interacting with it at all while the new firmware is being installed.

As always, before proceeding with the update, it’s recommended to ensure the smartphone has enough battery life left (at least 50 percent) so that the process goes smoothly and without interruptions. The installation will not start if the smartphone’s battery level is too low. It’s also best to connect the device to a stable Wi-Fi network as updating it over a cellular connection might incur extra data costs. To install the new software, head over to the handset’s Settings and locate the “Check for new system update” option in the “About Device” section. This will start the download if it’s already available in your territory and once it’s complete, a prompt to install the new software will appear in the Notifications tray. To start the installation, simply tap the system update notification.

As a reminder, the budget-friendly HTC Desire 530 sports a 5-inch HD display (720p), 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage space expandable via a microSD card. Other specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,200mAh battery. The smartphone features a playful design, with small paint splashes and blobs, aiming to attract a younger audience. The lower-end specs of the HTC Desire 530 led many to believe the handset would never get a taste of Android 7.0 Nougat, so the update comes as a nice surprise to some users, though it’s unlikely to ever be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo.
