Nokia 9 Android Flagship With Leaks In Another Render

An alleged render of the Nokia 9 leaked recently, presenting a full-screen design with thin side bezels and an elongated display aspect ratio. Though images of the back panel are missing, the device appears to feature a metal frame with the top and bottom edges segmented by antenna bands, and will reportedly carry a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner as opposed to embedding the sensor in a front-facing physical home button. This is expected to be Nokia’s first 18:9 smartphone and recent reports claim it will be officially introduced next month, though the aspect ratio of its screen is now somewhat dubious, with its newly uncovered FCC certification suggesting the existence of a 16:9 panel instead of a taller one and directly contradicting the render seen above.

The Nokia 9 is rumored to adopt a dual-camera setup on the back panel, and the leaked render at hand presents the device with dual front-facing sensors as well. The top and bottom bezels don’t seem to be as thin as those of other recent flagships, however, the display appears to stretch across both side edges, creating a nearly full-screen look. The top bezel also appears to accommodate a loudspeaker but the Nokia brand is missing entirely from the front panel so this could be the HMD’s first Android-powered smartphone model to abandon this feature.

Other expectations surrounding the Nokia 9 include a glass sandwich design which would theoretically allow for wireless charging capabilities, though that functionality might not be implemented. As for other hardware specifications, the device should be equipped with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2K resolution and be fueled by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset officially introduced earlier this month, though again, the aforementioned FCC certificate contradicts this rumor and instead suggests the existence of the Snapdragon 835. Qualcomm’s chipset should be paired with at least 4GB of RAM although a 6GB configuration is likelier, and as far as storage is concerned, the device should be offered in 64GB and 128GB variants. Android 8.0 Oreo is expected to run out of the box and recent rumors suggest the device will be officially unveiled along with the Nokia 8 (2018) on January 19 after CES. It remains to be seen whether the Nokia 9 will prioritize Eastern markets like the Nokia 6 did earlier this year, or if it will enjoy a more widespread release from the get-go.
