Redmi 5 Plus Receives OnePlus 5T-Like Navigation Gestures

As some of you probably already know, OnePlus 5T beta users received a new update quite recently, which introduced navigation gestures to the device, and it seems like the same has just happened for the Redmi 5 Plus users as well. At the end of last month, a report surfaced claiming that navigation gestures will hit the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in the near future, and it seems like the Redmi 5 Plus users are now getting the update as well, though it’s not clear whether this is a stable update or a beta update.

It is worth noting that the Mi MIX 2 consumers have been able to use such gestures for a while now, so Xiaomi users more or less know what to expect. We’ve also seen similar gestures on the iPhone X, as most of you probably already know. In case you’re wondering how these gestures function, feel free to check out the animated image down below, which actually shows these gestures working on the Redmi 5 Plus. Now, navigation gestures seem to work a bit differently on the Redmi 5 Plus, compared to the iPhone X and OnePlus 5T. On the Redmi 5 Plus, if you swipe from the bottom, you will trigger a home button-like action, in other words, the phone will navigate you to your homescreen. If you swipe from the bottom and pause, you will activate multitasking, while you will need to swipe up and to the side in order to trigger the ‘back’ function. So, the first two actions are basically identical as on the iPhone X and OnePlus 5T, while the ‘back’ action functions a bit differently.

It seems like Xiaomi is pushing such navigation gestures to all of its full-screen smartphones, so chances are that such functionality will ship out of the box with the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 7, and the rumored Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S. As already mentioned, we’re still not entirely sure if such functionality arrived to the Redmi 5 Plus via beta or stable update, but chances are that it’s the former, in any case, the global MIUI 9 Redmi 5 Plus ROM still did not get such functionality, it seems, but it probably will in the near future, stay tuned.
