Android 8.1 Oreo Update Arrives To The OnePlus 5 & 5T

OnePlus has started sending out OxygenOS 5.1.0 for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. This update brings Android 8.1 Oreo to both devices, along with some new features and general software-related changes. OnePlus had released Android 8.1 Oreo in form of an OxygenOS Open Beta update a while back for both devices, and after filtering some bugs and what not, the update is now stable, and ready for pretty much everyone it seems. It is worth noting that the OTA rollout is incremental, so not everyone will get it from the get-go, but you can force the update by installing a VPN app on your device, and selecting Canada or Germany in the options of a VPN app, which will let you download the OTA update immediately, no matter where you live.

Having said that, the biggest change for the OnePlus 5T users with this update lies in navigation gestures, as they’re finally available in a stable build. Navigation gestures have been available in OxygenOS Open Beta builds for the OnePlus 5T for a while now, and you can now use them in a stable build as well. These navigation gestures function similar to Apple’s, as you can swipe up from the middle in order to go home, or swipe up and pause in order to open the multitasking menu. If you swipe up from the left or right sides, you will trigger the back function. Do keep in mind that navigation gestures are not available for the OnePlus 5. Both devices have received the latest Android security update here as well, as both devices will get an update to Android security patch for April 2018 as soon as this update finishes installing.

Along with all of that, OnePlus has added new optimizations in gaming mode, which include power saving and pausing adaptive brightness. Network boost for games has also been added in for of a network priority for the gaming app in the foreground. As far as the OnePlus Launcher is concerned, the company has added category tags in the search section of the app drawer, and the launcher will also auto-name folders based on category now.
