OnePlus 6 Leaks In Low-Res Close-Up Video With Display Notch

A low-res close-up video depicting what’s believed to be the OnePlus 6 appeared online on Sunday, having originated from the phone maker’s home country of China. The short clip seen below doesn’t reveal many new details about the device, save for providing a glimpse at one of the handset’s “Never Settle” stock wallpapers. OnePlus has been pre-loading its phones with abstract wallpapers since mid-2014 and the first OnePlus One, with the upcoming Android flagship being expected to continue that tradition. The newly leaked video also provides another close-up look at the display notch of the OnePlus 6 that has already been revealed by the company itself, with the cutout in question accommodating an earpiece, proximity sensor, and the front-facing camera of the device.

While display notches remain a controversial topic among tech enthusiast, the Chinese original equipment manufacturer recently promised that owners of the OnePlus 6 will be able to hide the cutout of the phone by blacking out the sides of the screen flanking it. The company remains adamant that its next-generation device will still be best experienced without the notch being hidden as that default mode of operation will provide users with more screen real estate. The OEM initially wasn’t planning to include an option to mask the cutout but went back on its decision following user feedback, though the feature will only be launched after the device is already released and won’t be available from day one.

OnePlus has been teasing its upcoming high-end offering for over ten days now, having so far confirmed the handset will have a screen-to-body ratio of roughly 90-percent and be fueled by Qualcomm’s most capable chip to date – the Snapdragon 845. The OnePlus 6 will be offered in multiple variants, with the most premium model being set to boast 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space, the company said last week, having also revealed iPhone X-like gestures that are currently being beta-tested will be an integral part of the core user experience delivered by its Android 8.1 Oreo-powered flagship. The OnePlus 6 should be announced in less than a month and begin retailing worldwide by mid-May.
