Possible LG Q7 Mid-Ranger Certified With 18:9 Display

An LG Electronics-manufactured smartphone identified by the model number LM-Q710TS that’s widely believed to be the upcoming Q7 was certified by the United States Federal Communications Commission earlier this week, with the federal regulator publishing its wireless certificate on Thursday. The handset’s e-label depiction attached to the filing that can be seen below indicates the LG Q7 will feature an elongated display panel with an aspect ratio of 18:9, i.e. 2:1. The screenshot in question also shows on-screen system navigation buttons, suggesting the smartphone’s bottom bezel won’t have a physical Home key or capacitive buttons, presumably because it’s set to be relatively slim.

As the product was submitted to the FCC for review by the American branch of the South Korean tech giant, the Q7 is likely at the very least being considered for a stateside launch. While the federal regulator is often asked to certify devices which aren’t planned to be released in the U.S., usually because their manufacturers only want to test them in the country, such requests are commonly filed by foreign entities. A variant of the same handset was recently certified in Russia together with the upcoming G7 ThinQ, with its previous certificate pointing to Android 8.1 Oreo being part of LG’s mid-range package.

LG’s next Android flagship is set to be announced on May 2, the company confirmed earlier this month. The next addition to the G family is set to feature a display panel with an elongated aspect ratio and a notch, with the handset also being expected to sport an extra physical key on its left edge which is said to be functionally similar to the Bixby button of Samsung’s recently released flagships as it will be dedicated to launching the Google Assistant. The Seoul-based original equipment manufacturer is now also understood to be working on the LG V40 which is said to be code-named “Storm” and is planned to be released in late summer or early fall, known industry insider Evan Blass claimed Friday.
