Google Pixel 3 XL Once Again Imagined With Two Rear Cameras

The Pixel 3 XL is widely expected to feature a single rear camera, though recent rumors circulating the industry suggest Google has also been experimenting with a twin sensor system, with one such creation already being envisioned late last month and a new one emerging online earlier this week, courtesy of YouTube channel Concept Creator. The video that can be seen below depicts a handset that’s largely in line with recent prototype leaks and only differs from them through the addition of a two-lens setup to its back panel.

It’s presently unclear why Google supposedly decided to circumvent dual rear cameras for the third product generation in a row, with such solutions now being a mainstay of virtually all other Android flagships released in the last twelve months. While the company’s imaging software is widely believed to be second to none and managed to get the most of out of a single back sensor found on the Pixel 2-series devices, the fact that Huawei’s P20 Pro features no less than three lenses and significant focal length versatility means Google will have a harder time competing in the mobile photography space this year than it did in 2017. One variant of the Pixel 3 XL is also alleged to have 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space, an unusual configuration for a high-end Android device from 2018, with almost all of its contemporary rivals with as much flash memory now featuring 6GB of RAM.

The Active Edge feature supported by the Pixel 2 lineup is rumored to be making a return with the Pixel 3 series, with the larger device being expected to once again boast an LG Display-made OLED panel, though both are now said to be manufactured by Foxconn, a Taiwanese tech giant and the largest producer of Apple’s iPhones. With the last two product generations being announced on October 4, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL may also debut around that date this year, with previous rumors suggesting they’ll launch alongside the second-generation Pixel Buds and three Pixel-branded smartwatches.
