Google Pixelbook may eventually dual boot Windows 10

The Google Pixelbook is a somewhat niche product because it runs ChromeOS. The operating system isn’t for everyone as it’s fairly limited compared to Windows or MacOS.

However, the limited use of the laptop may change in the future. It seems that Google is working on hardware certification for the laptop, possibly allowing it to natively run Windows 10 as a second operating system.

ChromeOS now has commits referencing WHCK (Windows Hardware Certification Kit) and HLK (Hardware Lab Kit), which are likely pushes for Microsoft’s certification of the device to run Windows 10. Though the OS can run on uncertified hardware, certification brings signed drivers and a certain level of stability.

This kind of setup is ideal because ChromeOS is easy on the battery and can be used most of the time, while Windows 10 could be used only when necessary. You’d get the best of both worlds and the price tag of the Pixelbook would make more sense. Hopefully the official news of this project’s completion will be announced soon!
