MIUI 10 Global Beta Starts Rolling Out To Xiaomi’s Phones

Xiaomi had introduced the newest version of its Android skin, MIUI 10, about two weeks ago, and the first global beta build has just started rolling out to a bunch of Xiaomi-branded smartphones. To be more specific, MIUI 10 global beta build is now available for the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, Mi MIX 2S, Redmi S2, Redmi Note 5, and the Redmi Note 5 Pro. MIUI 10 beta has been available to Chinese consumers on specific phones for a short while, and it has now reached global units as well, which is an improvement over past updates, as it took Xiaomi quite some time to bring its updates to global devices.

This update arrives as the Global Beta ROM marked with a version 8.6.14, and it was supposed to arrive on the Xiaomi Mi 6 as well, but it did not, for one reason or the other, but it was probably not ready to be rolled out just yet, so Xiaomi decided to sit on it for a while longer. Along with this update, you will get pretty much all the features that the company announced at the announcement of the global MIUI 10 build, along with a “World Cup” card in the App Vault, which will, presumably, let you follow what’s going on in Russia, as the World Cup 2018 is currently ongoing, it started yesterday. This update also brings PWA support, and it optimizes Mi Browser a bit as well. If you’re already running the latest global beta build of MIUI 9 on either of the devices mentioned above, this update will land on your phone via an OTA update in the near future, if it did not already, if not, you will have to install it manually. Do keep in mind that not all phones will get the update straight away, as this is a staged rollout we’re looking at.

Xiaomi has redesigned MIUI 10 quite a bit, compared to MIUI 9. MIUI 10 is more in line with stock Android than any other MIUI version has been in the past, as MIUI 10’s notification shade, volume controls, and a number of other parts of the UI resemble Android P, actually. MIUI 10 is more circular than any other MIUI build before it, while the company also decided to add navigation gestures on a system level in MIUI 10. The Recents Menu has been vastly changed / improved as well, as it is not portrayed as a vertical list of recent apps, and those apps are listed in two columns, compared to a horizontal layout with a single full card on the screen, which was the case in MIUI 9.
