New Samsung White Paper Outlines 5G New Radio Standards

Samsung on Thursday published a new white paper outlining the latest 5G New Radio standards, having done so following the conclusion of a San Diego, California-based assembly organized by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). The gathering in question saw the announcement of detailed specifications meant to allow for commercial applications of the fifth generation of mobile networks. Titled “Who & How: Making 5G NR Standards,” the paper provides a summary of 3GPP’s recent efforts to innovate in the wireless space, clearly defining every technological characteristic of what 5G is meant to entail.

Among other things, Samsung’s creation tackles physical infrastructure, software, and frequencies the global consortium agreed to utilize as the backbone of its 5G deployment efforts. As was the case with previous generations of wireless technologies, 5G will be a standardized solution, allowing individuals from any part of the world to communicate with mobile networks anywhere else on the planet. Five interviews with telecommunications experts are also part of the newly published paper, being presented in a traditional Q&A format. The work was released in both English and Korean, with the network division of Samsung Electronics now offering it for download free of charge. Anyone interested in reading the paper can hence do so by referring to the banner below.

While Samsung has been manufacturing telecom equipment for many years now, 5G research and development marks the first occasion on which the OEM took upon itself to lead wireless innovation efforts, with such ambitions being rewarded with new contracts in the United States and other parts of the world. The Seoul-based firm recently partnered with Verizon on the American carrier’s 5G fixed wireless access project, in addition to getting involved into a broad range of 5G experiments. Samsung’s first 5G-ready smartphones are likely to debut early next year in the form of the Android-powered Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus flagships.
