Samsung Galaxy A6 Android Mid-Ranger Coming To AT&T: Rumor

One variant of Samsung’s Galaxy A6 mid-ranger identified by the model number SM-A600A is coming to AT&T, known industry insider Evan Blass said Friday. Originally announced in early May, the Galaxy A6 series is meant to succeed last year’s Galaxy A5 lineup as a range of Samsung-made Android offerings catering to price-conscious consumers, though the Seoul-based company has yet to provide any official indication that either device is meant to be released in the United States. The handsets so far launched in Europe, India, and a number of other Asian markets, with the Galaxy A6 starting at the equivalent of $360 on the Old Continent.

The model number shared by Mr. Blass hasn’t yet appeared in any regulatory database, suggesting the smartphone still hasn’t been certified, with that state of affairs making a June launch unlikely. While AT&T had some mobile exclusives from Samsung in recent years, it rarely offered exclusive devices outside of the firm’s Galaxy S Active series of rugged Android flagships, with the implication being that the Galaxy A6 is likely to be carried by other network operators in the country as well. The device itself is an entirely mid-range affair, featuring a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED panel with an HD+ resolution of 1,480 by 720 pixels amounting to a tall aspect ratio of 18.5:9, with the tech giant referring to that image format as an “Infinity Display” ever since debuting it as part of the Galaxy S8 line in early 2017.

Samsung’s Exynos 7870 chip clocked at 1.6GHz is also part of the package, together with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage space. A variant with half of that flash memory and 3GB of RAM was also commercialized in select markets and it remains to be seen which model ends up being offered by AT&T, provided the latest rumor is accurate. The Galaxy A6 has a 16-megapixel rear camera utilizing an f/1.7 lens, whereas another 16-megapixel sensor sits behind an f/1.9 lens on the slim top bezel of the device. A 3,000mAh battery is also included, as is Android 8.0 Oreo-based Samsung Experience 9.0.
