Why The Mercedes-Benz G-Class Is Better Than The New Jeep Wrangler

What happens when the best off-roader of America takes on the best off-roader of Germany? Check out this cool comparison between the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.

Jeep surely did a great job on the new Wrangler. The Rubicon offers the best off-roading performance among its different trims. However, there are many reasons why the G-Class remains the better choice.

Where the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Stands Out

Nevermind that the G-Class has an MSRP of $141,995, which is almost three times the value of the Wrangler. Roman Mica presents to us the three reasons why he prefers the iconic Merc SUV.

First, Roman justifies his pick with the G-Class’ 4.0-liter biturbo V8 with 416 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque distributed by a 7-speed automatic transmission. Second, he brings us to the very luxurious interior of the auto, which is far superior compared to the standard-looking cabin of the Jeep. Third, he turns up the engine and brings us closer to the exhausts for that loud but sweet V8 sound.

Tommy Mica also pointed out that the G-Class has double the towing capacity of the Wrangler. The Merc can pull 7,000 lbs. while the Jeep can only handle 3,500 lbs.

Then, the G-Class has locking differentials located in its front, rear and center. The Rubicon only has front and rear differentials. Both managed to get themselves out of trouble with little effort though when they appeared stuck on the dirt road.

The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is Still a Pretty Decent Alternative

On the other hand, the Wrangler Rubicon has 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque in its 3.6-liter V6 engine. That’s not bad at all, but nothing compared to the V8 of the G-Class.

Next, the removable doors and top of the Wrangler presents a nice way to enjoy open-air driving. But with the doors installed, the G-Class still has a better overall road visibility for the driver. Lastly, the front bumper of the Rubicon looks more solid than its German rival.
