Samsung Galaxy S10 Chip To Use ARM DynamIQ Architecture: Rumor

The Exynos 9820 chip that’s likely to power Samsung’s Galaxy S10 lineup of Android flagships will use a new architecture with two separate dual-core configurations and another quad-core cluster, according to established industry insider from China known only under their Twitter and Weibo handles “Ice Universe.” The setup is said to be ARM’s DynamIQ solution, with its energy-efficient cluster consisting of four A55 cores meant to be operational while the host device isn’t under a heavy processing load. The same configuration was already employed in the Exynos 9810 which powers the Galaxy S9 series and is assumed to be clocked at approximately 2GHz.

Two Cortex-A75 or A76 cores should make up the medium cluster of the Exynos 9820, whereas another pair of custom Mongoose M4 cores are understood to be part of the package as well, designed for the most hardware-intensive tasks, as per the same source who only yesterday claimed the same silicon will also be equipped with ARM’s latest Mali-G76 MP18 GPU. Samsung’s decision to circumvent a traditional setup involving two quad-core clusters may be an attempt to create a system-on-chip that’s more suitable for artificial intelligence applications, though it’s still unclear whether any individual module of the Exynos 9820 will be solely dedicated to neural processing, an area wherein Qualcomm and Huawei’s HiSilicon are presently ahead of the South Korean technology giant.

The Exynos Mongoose M4 cores are rumored to break clock speeds of 3.3GHz, continuing Samsung‘s tradition of delivering industry-leading single-core performance in the Android segment; even as its Exynos 9810 features somewhat weaker graphical rendering capabilities than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845, it’s still the top Android chip for single-core operations. The Galaxy S10 series has last been rumored to encompass three devices and launch in the first quarter of 2019, with the top model featuring a triple-camera setup on its back and another dual-lens system on the front. An in-display fingerprint reader and depth-sensing capabilities are also said to be included, together with Android P and a 6GB RAM base.
